KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Prime Minister Andrew Holness will inform the nation of the Authorities’s place concerning Jamaica adopting the Caribbean Courtroom of Justice (CCJ) as the ultimate appellate court docket.
Talking in Parliament earlier this week, Minister of Authorized and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte stated the Authorities is paying shut consideration to issues regarding the remaining court docket and constitutional reform.
“There’s and must be no disagreement that it’s unacceptable and untenable to proceed with an association the place Jamaicans want a visa to entry their remaining court docket,” she stated.
She made the assertion because the Parliamentary Opposition Members of the Constitutional Reform Committee have known as on the Authorities to state its place on the CCJ publicly.
Malahoo Forte stated that the Jamaican Bar Affiliation had submitted to the Committee, which included suggestions for Jamaica to accede to the appellate jurisdiction of the CCJ.
The CCJ is the Caribbean regional judicial tribunal established on February 14, 2001, by the Settlement Establishing the Caribbean Courtroom of Justice.
