Funeral service was held on Tuesday following the sudden passing of Norma McKenzie, a mom, grandmother, nurse, devoted citizen and a neighborhood
chief.
Born in Springfield, Jamaica, Norma left for England within the early Nineteen Sixties to check nursing on the ft of the Jesuits. At age 27, she arrived in Canada and labored as a Registered Nurse within the working room on the Scarborough Common Hospital. She typically labored three shifts on the hospital to make sure her kids by no means went to mattress hungry.
Nonetheless, she discovered time to benefit from the final Stanley Cup-winning glory days of her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs; and the back-to-back champions Toronto Blue Jays, her new sporting love. Norma McKenzie was wonderful. She volunteered perpetually, as if to assist others was her ticket to paradise. The neighbours knew of her. Youth sought out her recommendation; she had a form phrase for anybody down on their luck.
When her son, Michael Thompson, campaigned for a seat in Toronto Metropolis Council, many residents made it clear that she, not him, was the attraction. Norma formalized her neighborhood work when she served as president of the Mid-Scarborough Neighborhood Affiliation.
An unbiased lady and avid traveller, her favorite haunts have been Paris and Amsterdam. Nonetheless, there was no place like Scarborough, house for 56 of her 83 years.
Left to mourn her passing are kids, Sandra, Michael, Colin, Mark, and Andrew; 13 grandchildren; 7 Nice-Grandchildren; siblings; households and pals.
Funeral Service happened on Tuesday on the Highland Funeral Residence, Scarborough Chapel Burial was at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery, in Markham.
