    With Jamaican and Barbadian blood operating by her veins, Brooklyn Assemblywoman Monique Chandler-Waterman values her Caribbean roots and was excited for the chance to have a unifying Pre-Labor Day Kick-off, highlighting management throughout the Caribbean Diaspora.

    This star-studded “It’s not a I factor; it’s a We Ting,” convening passed off at Backyard 54, at 314 East 54th Road, within the coronary heart of Meeting District 58, comprising practically 90 p.c of Caribbean immigrants.

    Within the spirit of unity, Chandler-Waterman, whose mother and father hail from Jamaica and Barbados, took a time period that has all the time remained a structural household hyperlink and prolonged it to group, with a convening that included star-studded sightings from Omar Hawthorne of Golden Crust; Trevor George Smith, also called “Busta Rhymes,” alongside together with his sons T’ziah Wooden-Smith, T’khi Wooden-Smith and Trillian Wooden-Smith; and VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta, Dr. Meda Leacock.

    International locations from throughout the Caribbean Diaspora have been represented together with Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, The Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia & Grenadines, St. Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, the Virgin Islands, Guyana and far more.

    “It really warmed my coronary heart to see so many international locations highlighted for our second annual pre-Labor Day kick-off, the place we celebrated communities which have helped to contribute to the melting pot of New York State in a myriad of how,” stated Assemblywoman Chandler-Waterman.

    She stated the occasion “really resonated with all attendees gearing up for Labor Day,” together with rapper, producer and actor Busta Rhymes, who lived in Meeting District 58 in East Flatbush.

    “Every part about me, and what you will notice the muse and the foundation of it comes from my Caribbean East Flatbush upbringin,” Busta Rhymes stated. “I do know this queen [Assemblywoman Monique Chandler-Waterman] of the East Flatbush group.”

    Chandler-Waterman stated the Caribbean kick-off “wouldn’t be so with out actual Caribbean leisure,” which included singing with Hilton Samuels; metal pan performances with Muzical Marley and Jewel Alexis-Josey; masquerade fashions; and Moko Jumbies.

    This 12 months’s ‘It’s not a I factor; it’s a We Ting,’ honorees included: Nicole Langlaise,  Major Care Clerkship Coordinator at SUNY Downstate; Dionne Davis, administrator at SUNY Downstate; Ernest Skinner, former Neighborhood Liaison of Councilman Jumaane Williams; Pernon Dunston, Legacy of Father Samuel Dunston; Alishia Goodridge, Assistant VP for Gov’t and Neighborhood Relations, Downstate Well being Sciences College Downstate Hospital; Rose Graham, administrator at NYC DOE/CSA; Bishop Eric Garnes, Senior Pastor or Tabernacle of Reward; Dr. Donald Moorea; Dr. Jean Joseph, former chair of the West Indian-American Day Carnival Affiliation; Inspector Gaby Celiba, first Caribbean nationwide to guide the 67th Precinct; Paula Harris, Sundance Older Grownup Heart; Camille Hastick, legacy of father, Roy Hastick of CACCI; and  Khari Edwards, legacy of Elenora Bernard.
