PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Oct. 19 — The Caribbean Meteorological Group (CMO) invitations you to affix within the celebration of the fiftieth Anniversary of the Settlement for the Institution of the Caribbean Meteorological Group, signed on 19 October 1973 in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis. The CMO was established as a Specialised Establishment of the Caribbean Group (CARICOM), which can also be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.
The supply of meteorological and hydrometeorological providers may be very distinctive as a result of it can’t be executed with out main cooperation and collaboration amongst all nations, massive and small, each on the regional and international ranges, a main motivator for the institution of the CMO.
The CMO originated from the outdated British Caribbean Meteorological Service that was established by the Authorities of the UK (UK) in 1951. Following the breakup of the West Indies Federation in 1962, the Heads of Authorities established the Ministerial-level Caribbean Meteorological Council (CMC) to supervise what turned the Caribbean Meteorological Service (CMS) in 1963.
The Caribbean Meteorological Service established the Caribbean Meteorological Institute (CMI) in 1967 [now the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) as of 1999], with help from the United Nations Growth Programme (UNDP) and World Meteorological Group (WMO). With the formation of many Nationwide Meteorological Companies after independence, the CMO was established in 1973, to boost the mixing and coordination of the scientific and technical work of the Meteorological Companies, the Council and the Institute.
For this milestone celebration, CMO is delighted to ask you to a webinar titled “The Early Years of Meteorology within the English-Talking Caribbean.” This webinar represents a singular alternative to delve into the evolution of meteorology within the English-Talking Caribbean “within the early days”, as offered by a number of the pioneers: Dr. John Lee, Dr. Michael Garstang and Dr. Kenrick Leslie.

Concerning the CMO
The Caribbean Meteorological Group (CMO) is a specialised company of the Caribbean Group (CARICOM) that coordinates the joint scientific and technical actions in climate, local weather in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos Islands.
