New York Metropolis Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Brooklyn Democratic Celebration Chair, Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn on Tuesday joined the African-American neighborhood in celebrating Kwanzaa, a celebration of African-American tradition.
Kwanzaa celebrations started on Tuesday, Dec. 26, and ends on Jan. 1. Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, a professor of Africana research.
“Kwanzaa is impressed by the celebrations of the beginning of the harvest season in Africa, and celebrates historical past, values, household, neighborhood and tradition,” Bichotte Hermelyn, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, advised Caribbean Life on Tuesday, including that every day of Kwanzaa “emphasizes certainly one of seven core rules, or ‘Nguzo Saba’”.
