    West Indies cricket legend Joel Garner to be honored during Caribbean Week in New York – Caribbean Life

    The Barbados-based Caribbean Tourism Group (CTO) says West Indies cricket legend Joel “Huge Hen” Garner can be honored throughout CTO’s Caribbean Week in New York from June 16-21, 2024.

    CTO mentioned on Thursday that the 6’8” former Windies quick bowler will take part in a Cricket Ceremony and Watch Social gathering in midtown Manhattan on Monday, June 17, on the Caribbean-owned and-operated S’Aimer NYC Restaurant throughout an occasion supported by Barbados Tourism Advertising, Inc.

    “Garner was a formidable presence for batsmen within the Nineteen Seventies and Eighties, famend for his blistering tempo, towering bounce and devastating yorkers that always despatched stumps flying,” CTO mentioned.

    Amongst bowlers with 200 or extra Take a look at wickets, CTO mentioned Garner had a formidable common of 20.97.

    He performed his remaining Take a look at in 1987 alongside his successor, Courtney Walsh, and was the final of the “Superior Foursome” – Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Joel Garner and Colin Croft – to retire, CTO mentioned.

    It mentioned Garner can be honored through the ceremony, which can be attended by CTO Chairman Kenneth Bryan, Minister of Tourism and Ports for the Cayman Islands, and Barbados Minister of Tourism and Worldwide Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill.

    “It will be important that we acknowledge the importance of cricket and sports activities in tourism growth, and particularly essential that we honor our legends,” mentioned Rosa Harris, director of Tourism for the Cayman Islands and Chairman of the CTO Board of Administrators.

    “Their contributions have been invaluable in selling our area,” added Harris, spokesperson for Caribbean Week in New York.
