St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has introduced plans to introduce laws aimed toward regulating alcohol consumption throughout funeral processions and cemetery gatherings.
Talking on NBC Radio St Vincent and the Grenadines this morning, Gonsalves mentioned the conduct of some mourners is turning into “out of hand”.
Rising disrespect spurs motion
Gonsalves expressed concern over the dearth of reverence exhibited throughout funeral ceremonies, citing situations of alcohol consumption and revelry akin to carnival festivities.
He emphasised the necessity for a shift in conduct to uphold the solemnity of such events, notably inside churchyards.
Legislative agenda
Along with addressing alcohol consumption at funerals, Gonsalves outlined different legislative priorities, together with measures to fight gun and ammunition-related crimes, in addition to reforms in courtroom reporting and sexual offenses.
