A middle-aged man deported by the Trump administration to Jamaica just lately is insisting that he’s an American from Camden, New Jersey, and has been wrongfully dumped on a Caribbean island the place he has no antecedents.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says they’ve documentary proof that the deportee is a Jamaican christened Devon Properly, however he insists that he’s Trevor Anthony Grant, a local American citizen.

The Jamaica Gleaner is reporting that his story started in early 2023 when he was picked up by ICE and positioned in detention for a felony crime. He insists that his arrest was primarily based on incorrect identification data. In all, he spent practically two full years in jail earlier than he was deported again to Jamaica.

Taking over the case at his insistence this week, the native immigration and citizenship service (PICA) mentioned it was happy that the Individuals had achieved the right factor and had had their proper man in custody for deportation following two years of forwards and backwards efforts between ICE, the Jamaican Embassy within the US and native authorities again in Jamaica. PICA says it’s happy with its investigations and the end result.

“Within the on the spot case, the US authorities supplied PICA with documentary proof, together with biometric data. PICA carried out investigations to confirm the authenticity of the Jamaican start certificates and different data associated to Devon Properly. This biometric data, together with fingerprints, linked the person who arrived on the flight as Jamaican nationwide Devon Properly,” the division acknowledged in a launch.

As he prepares to hunker down in a rustic to which he alleges he has no familial or different ties, Properly or Grant continues to insist that the Individuals had used incorrect biometric data, akin to fingerprints, to arrest, detain, and jail him earlier than placing him on a flight. He’s dissatisfied that Jamaica has accepted the information and knowledge supplied by ICE. “I’m a United States citizen born in Camden, New Jersey. I had an interview with the Jamaican consulate, at which era they got here to the conclusion that I’m not from Jamaica,” he mentioned, noting that Jamaican diplomats had supplied him with no paperwork. “They don’t try this. They merely have an interview with you over the telephone, they usually make a dedication primarily based on the data you give them and the data again there. I couldn’t give them any details about Jamaica as a result of that is my first time being in Jamaica,” the publication quoted him as saying.
From all appearances, the Jamaican Immigration Service seems to have closed the matter, as Properly/Grant appears to be on his personal.
