Jamaica’s Ministry of Agriculture has denied any involvement in granting veterinary permits for lobster importation into the nation.
The Ministry, in a press release, refuted claims circulating on varied social media and different platforms relating to the importation of Caribbean Spiny Lobsters (Panulirus argus).
Stringent rules for lobster imports
The Ministry clarified that stringent rules exist relating to importing animals, together with lobsters, in addition to any animal merchandise or byproducts.
Upstanding lobster exports
Adhering to worldwide requirements and native legal guidelines, the Ministry underscored that almost all of lobsters harvested in Jamaican waters are exported in a fashion in keeping with these rules.
No allow issued for importation
The Ministry said that no importation allow has been issued for lobsters.
