Tons of of family members, associates and music fans attended the Honors Music Pageant for highschool college students on the Grand Road Instructional Campus Auditorium, 850 Grand St,, Brooklyn on Saturday, March 16. The Music Educators Affiliation of New York Metropolis and the NYC Public Colleges Arts Workplace organized the competition.
Greater than 460 college students from 47 faculties participated within the competition which included the Honors Pageant Refrain, Honors Pageant Symphony Orchestra, Honors Pageant Symphonic Band, Honors Pageant Fashionable Band and Honors Pageant Jazz Band. Inside 24 hours of the competition, all the scholars had been introduced collectively for a rehearsal with their visitor conductors. They had been Dr. Monty Cole, Jazz Band Conductor; Dr. LaToya A. Webb, Symphonic Band Conductor; Skye Claire Hale, Fashionable Band Conductor, Dr. Ronnie Oliver, Jr., Refrain Conductor; and Gregory Robbins, Orchestra Conductor.
The competition was devoted to the life and work and lifetime of previous MEANCY Honoree an Advisory Member David La Morte and the 2024 MEANCY Honoree Mia Ibrahim for his or her service to music training in New York Metropolis.
Olympus Academy in Brooklyn participated for the primary time with three college students, two performing within the Honors Pageant Refrain and one within the Honors Pageant Jazz Band. Music Educator Sattanya Robinson from the Olympus Academy mentioned that she seemed ahead to the competition and that it was a method to give college students the publicity which might permit them to pursue a doable profession in music. “It was an effective way of networking with different music instructor,” she mentioned. “The competition inspired college students to observe music that didn’t do earlier than,” Robinson added.
One of many college students from Olympus Academy, Xavier Belfon who carried out on the occasion performed the tenor sax within the Honors Pageant Jazz Band. He’s from Grenada and a gifted musician who comes from a household steeped in music together with his father who can be saxophone participant.
