PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC—A second group of troopers from Guatemala arrived on Saturday, bringing the contingent combating armed gangs within the nation to 150.
The Guatemalan authorities stated in a press release that all the reinforcements are from the nation’s army police unit.
On arrival, the brand new troopers who paraded on the tarmac carrying their nation’s flag had been welcomed by Godfrey Otunge, the Kenyan Commander of the Multinational Mission in Assist of the Haitian Nationwide Police, and the Deputy Commander Colonel Kevron Henry of the Jamaica Protection Power.
In welcoming the brand new group, Otunge stated they’ll improve the mission’s capability to fight legal teams.
“We’re prepared, and we’ll proceed to be prepared. The gangs will quickly expertise our full willpower,” stated Otunge, who added that the reign of armed gangs will finish in 2025.
With the arrival of the Guatemalans, the Multinational Safety Assist (MMS) workforce has elevated by 36.5% in 48 hours. It now has 590 police/army personnel, together with 400 Kenyans, 150 Guatemalans, eight Salvadorans, six Bahamians, 24 Jamaicans, and two Belizeans.
The MMS is a global police and army pressure accepted by the United Nations Safety Council in October 2023 to help the federal government of Haiti in restoring legislation and order amid worsening civil strife and gang violence since 2018.
