A 22-year-old United States citizen, who resides in Guyana was arrested and charged with the illegal importation of a managed substance after cocaine was seized on the John F. Kennedy Worldwide Airport.
Studies are that Zacharie Scott tried to smuggle roughly 40 kilos (18.45 kilograms) of cocaine into america from Guyana.
The invention at customs
The arrest occurred on Friday, as Scott underwent a routine secondary screening by Customs Brokers on the airport.
Brokers analyzing Scott’s two suitcases discovered baggage of frozen shrimp concealing blocks of a white powdery substance.
Checks later confirmed this substance to be cocaine.
Confession and potential payoff
Through the investigation, Scott purportedly confessed to authorities about his data and involvement within the drug smuggling.
He admitted to bringing the cocaine into the U.S. with the expectation of receiving a fee of as much as US$6,000 for his illicit service.
The worth of the seized cocaine
Studies are that the road worth of the seized cocaine ranges between US$239,850 and US$479,700.
If convicted, Scott faces as much as 20 years in jail.
At his arraignment in a Brooklyn Federal Courtroom, presided over by Justice of the Peace Choose Joseph Marutollo on Saturday, Scott was ordered to stay in custody.
A bail listening to is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23.
