GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – At the very least two folks have been killed after a Coast Guard vessel collided with a civilian boat within the Moruca River, Area One (Barima Waini) on Friday.
The Guyana Defence Drive (GDF), in a press release, stated the Coast Guard Raiders Craft 17 (RC 17) was concerned within the accident with the civilian vessel at roughly 06:45 hrs (native time).
“The Coast Guard vessel was en path to Santa Rosa on the time however collided with a civilian boat with 4 (4) occupants while negotiating a flip,” the GPF stated, including that the Coast Guard Vessel was broken and is at the moment on the base within the Pomeroon River.
It stated that the civilian vessel had three adults and one child on board, whereas the RC 17 carried Coast Guard personnel.
The operator of the unnamed civilian vessel and the mom of a child died because of the accident. They have been pronounced useless on the Charity Hospital. Their names weren’t disclosed.
The GDF stated that the Chief of Defence Employees, Brigadier Omar Khan, Officers and Ranks of the Guyana Defence Drive “prolong honest condolences to the households and family members affected by this tragic incident. Our ideas are with them throughout this tough time”.
The Guyana Police Drive (GPF) stated it had launched an investigation into the accident.
