Guyana authorities have launched a human trafficking investigation after three underage ladies have been intercepted on the Kurupukari checkpoint within the Higher Demerara-Berbice area late Sunday evening.
In a quick assertion, the Ministry of Dwelling Affairs confirmed that police detained 4 males—two drivers and two porters—after the ladies have been found touring in two vehicles that have been subsequently seized on the checkpoint, situated close to the indigenous settlement of Kurupukari alongside the Essequibo River.
“Law enforcement officials on the Kurupukari checkpoint have simply intercepted three underage ladies in what’s suspected to be a case of human trafficking,” the ministry stated. “Two vehicles have been detained, and 4 people…have been taken into custody as investigations proceed.”
