WASHINGTON, CMC – The Group of American States (OAS) says the Everlasting Consultant of Suriname, Jan Marten Schalkwijk, has assumed the chair of the Inter-American Council for Integral Improvement (CIDI) of the group.
Schalkwijk, who assumed the place on Tuesday, will maintain it till December 2025.
Throughout a ceremony held at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C., Schalkwijk said that in his tenure, the first focus could be on “capability constructing to enhance commerce within the Americas as a pillar of inclusive and sustainable growth.”
Outgoing Vice Chair of CIDI and Consultant of Colombia to the OAS, Luis Ernesto Vargas, mentioned: “On behalf of the outgoing Chair of CIDI, Ambassador Gilchrist of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and likewise on my behalf, thanks all on your assist throughout our time period, and finest needs for achievement to these assuming the Chair and Vice Chair positions.”
The OAS said that the Everlasting Consultant of Brazil, Benoni, will maintain the vice chair place for the second time period of the 12 months.
The chair of CIDI rotates each six months in accordance with alphabetical order in Spanish.
