GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC—The Caribbean Neighborhood (CARICOM) has expressed deep concern about Ecuador’s latest actions “which have violated the premises of the Embassy of Mexico in Quito.”
Mexico’s authorities ended diplomatic ties with Ecuador after police broke into the Mexican Embassy late Friday to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas.
“Member States of CARICOM reaffirm the significance of adherence to the rules of worldwide regulation and guidelines of diplomatic engagement enshrined within the Vienna Conference, which codifies the inviolability of diplomatic missions and consular places of work,” CARICOM mentioned in a quick assertion on Sunday.
“We anticipate that each states will search to resolve the matter by means of dialogue and entry to related multilateral course of to make sure that our area stays one in all peace.”
Following Glas’ arrest, leaders from throughout the Americas voiced outrage on the incident, and Mexico’s president introduced he was breaking diplomatic ties with Ecuador.
Glas had been convicted on prices of bribery and corruption and stays below investigation for different potential crimes.
