‘Carry Her Again’ is ‘horror that sticks’
By Janet Grant
A few years in the past, the Philippou brothers shook up the horror scene with Discuss to Me, a nasty little shocker that also haunts me. So, after I heard they had been again with a brand new movie, Carry Her Again, I cleared my schedule. And wow, it doesn’t disappoint.

This time, the Philippous have us comply with Piper, who’s critically spectacular (performed by newcomer Sora Wong), a visually impaired lady grappling with the sudden loss of life of her father. She and her stepbrother Andy (Billy Barratt) discover themselves in a foster house with Laura (Sally Hawkins), a girl who’s struggling along with her personal heavy grief. Proper from the bounce, there’s an eerie pressure within the air. The home feels too quiet—Laura’s too sort. The shed is locked, and the pool is drained. Are you aware that feeling when one thing is simply… off? This film exists in that house.

The Philippous know how one can construct dread like few others working in the present day. The story—co-written by Danny Philippou and Discuss to Me co-writer Invoice Hinzman—pulls you in with a sluggish burn, then tightens its grip till you’re virtually chewing your sleeve. It’s horror that sticks, not simply due to the scares, but in addition due to what it’s attempting to say. Grief is the monster, portrayed in all its twisted, unpredictable types.
What I actually liked, although, is how Carry Her Again mixes subgenres with out ever shedding management—there are notes of occult horror, psychological thriller, and even some good old style haunted home vibes. It performs with kindertrauma in a manner that can mess with you lengthy after the credit roll.
Sally Hawkins is extraordinary as Laura. She brings real humanity to a personality who may have simply been a cartoon villain. As an alternative, Laura’s terrifying as a result of she feels genuine, which by some means makes every thing worse. She’s unsettling in one of the best ways, and sure, she deserves each award for this.
Bringing Her Again isn’t simple to observe—however that’s the purpose. It’s daring, disturbing, and fully unafraid to depart some questions unanswered. Horror followers? This one’s for you.
In theatres Might 30, 2025.
