The Ministry of Overseas Affairs and Overseas Commerce stated this ratification aligns with Belize’s Medium-Time period Growth Technique, which focuses on marine conservation, halting biodiversity loss, and defending our oceans.
“Belize’s efforts, such because the moratorium on offshore oil exploration, the ban on gillnets, and the creation and growth of protected marine areas, replicate its management position in ocean and marine preservation throughout the Caribbean,” the ministry added.
With funding from the UK, the workshop is organized by the United Nations’ Division for Ocean Affairs and the Legislation of the Sea. It brings collectively contributors from throughout the Caribbean.
