Canadian folks singer-songwriter Allison Russell received Greatest American Roots Efficiency on the 2024 Grammys for her music “Eve Was Black.”
She accepted the award on Sunday night time at a ceremony forward of the principle gala.
Russell has obtained eight Grammy nominations, 4 Canadian Folks Music Awards and two Juno Awards.
She was born in Montreal to a Grenadian father who left Canada earlier than he knew that her (Russell’s) Scottish-Canadian teenaged mom was pregnant.
Russell was initially positioned in foster care however her mom regained custody of her after marrying an American expatriate.
After experiencing abuse, Russell ran away from house at aged 15. She ultimately moved to Vancouver and shaped a band ,Po’ Lady, within the early 2000,
She later began a duo, Birds of Chicago, with JJ Nero whom she married in 2013.
In 2021, Russell launched her first solo album, Exterior Little one, which explores her experiences throughout her youth, together with her restoration from childhood abuse.
