    Broadway celebrates free Juneteenth concert – Caribbean Life

    The Broadway League’s Black to Broadway initiative introduced on Thursday, June 12, the performers for the fifth Annual Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth, a free out of doors live performance in Occasions Sq., on Thursday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (rain or shine).

    The Broadway League mentioned two-time Tony Award nominee Jon Michael Hill and 2024 and 2025 Tony Award winner Kara Younger from the 2025 Tony Award-winning Greatest Play Function will co-host the dwell live performance.

    It mentioned the 2025 Juneteenth Legacy Award can be introduced to Tony Award®-winning actor/activist, educator, and philanthropist André De Shields. De Shields is being acknowledged for his trailblazing profession spanning over 5 a long time.

    Recognized for originating iconic roles on Broadway in The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Full Monty, and Hadestown, the League mentioned De Shields is “a passionate advocate for each efficiency and philanthropy, together with the institution of the André De Shields fund on the College of Wisconsin–Madison.”

    With a profession outlined by daring decisions, cultural impression, and enduring magnificence, The League mentioned De Shields “embodies the spirit of the Juneteenth Legacy Award.”

    Introduced by The Broadway League’s Black to Broadway initiative, Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth inventive and manufacturing groups embody Director and Author Steve H. Broadnax III, Music Director Rashad McPherson, Govt Producers Devon Miller and Kendra Whitlock Ingram, Stage Supervisor Monet Thibou, and Common Supervisor Devon Miller of Foresight Theatrical.

    The Broadway League mentioned the objective of Black to Broadway is “to encourage deeper engagement with consciousness of and entry to Broadway for all Black individuals.”

    Created by The Broadway League in 2019, this initiative is “an industry-wide celebration of the Black group on Broadway — on stage, within the viewers, behind the scenes, and as leaders within the Broadway group.”
