WASHINGTON, CMC – The USA Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will journey to Jamaica, Guyana, and Suriname later this week “to advance President Trump’s U.S. overseas coverage priorities within the Caribbean,” the US State Division stated Monday.
It stated that the journey will happen March 26-27. Whereas in Jamaica, Rubio will maintain bilateral engagements with Prime Minister Barbados Mia Mottley, who can be the chair of the 15-member regional integration motion, CARICOM; Stuart Younger, the Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister; and Fritz Alphonse Jean, the top of the transitional presidential council (CPT)in Haiti.
An announcement issued by the Trinidad and Tobago authorities stated that Prime Minister Younger would “concentrate on US overseas coverage and its impact on Trinidad and Tobago and the broader area” in his discussions with Rubio.
“Prime Minister Younger believes the bilateral discussions present a strategic alternative to spotlight the significance of the connection between Trinidad and Tobago, CARICOM, and the US and to concentrate on exploring areas for deepening cooperation.
“The Prime Minister notes that his assembly with the U.S. Secretary of State is in step with his endeavor to proceed to interact in dialogue on the highest stage of the US administration for the good thing about all of the folks of Trinidad and Tobago,” stated.
The State Division stated Rubio’s engagements “with our valued Caribbean companions will promote regional cooperation to finish unlawful immigration, counter transnational organized crime, strengthen regional actions to handle Haiti’s political and safety challenges, and strengthen the US’ financial partnerships with Caribbean international locations.”
