WASHINGTON, CMC – The Secretary Normal of the Group of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, has introduced the appointment of Maricarmen Plata, a member of his cupboard, as chief of the Electoral Commentary Mission (EOM) to be deployed to the March 12 common elections in Belize.
Almagro stated the Mission, comprising 12 observers from seven international locations, will give attention to electoral group and know-how, political-electoral financing, and electoral justice.
Forward of the polls, Almagro stated the Chief of Mission and the OAS group will meet with electoral authorities, representatives of political events, authorities officers, and different stakeholders “to debate views on the electoral course of.”
On election day, the OAS chief stated mission members would go to polling stations from the opening of the polls to the counting of votes and the publication of outcomes.
Within the days after the election, Almagro stated the OAS Mission would current its Preliminary Report containing observations and suggestions “that search to strengthen the democratic and electoral processes within the nation.”
Almagro stated this would be the fourth electoral statement mission that the OAS has deployed in Belize, following earlier missions in 2012 and 2015 to look at common elections and a 1997 mission targeted on voter re-registration.
