GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC—The Council for Overseas and Neighborhood Relations (COFCOR) on Monday congratulated Suriname’s Overseas Affairs Minister Albert Ramdin on his “historic” election as the brand new Secretary-Basic of the Group of American States (OAS).
Ramdin was elected for 2025-2030 through the 56th Particular Session of the OAS Basic Meeting on 10 March.
Ramdin, 67, was elected by acclamation following the withdrawal of Rubén Ramírez, the Overseas Minister of Paraguay. He succeeds Luis Almagro, who was first elected as OAS Secretary Basic in 2015 and re-elected in 2020.
Ramdin will serve till 2030.
