KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—The Transport Ministry intends to implement a brand new aged automobile coverage that enables for the importation of 10-year-old automobiles and 15——to 20-year-old buses. This may help public passenger automobile (PPV) operators in replenishing their fleets.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz stated the draft coverage shall be submitted to cupboard for dialogue subsequent week.
Vaz, who spoke on Tuesday throughout a press convention, famous that at the moment, about 90 p.c of the island’s PPV operators use autos which might be over 15 years previous.
“The present fleet of passenger autos in operation on our roads is comprised of aged autos, greater than 90 p.c being over 15 years previous. Increasing the age restrict of imported autos will broaden the affordability choice for PPV operations whereas not compromising security.”
He stated the brand new coverage will facilitate ordering autos straight from abroad.
