Because the 12 months closes on the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Congress of Black Ladies of Canada (CBWC), the group already is saying plans for its first main occasion of 2025.
“We’re launching a brand new chapter in Toronto,” Loris Thomas, president of the Congress of Black Ladies Ontario (CBWO) Inc. instructed The Caribbean Digicam. “We now have been requested through the years why we not have an lively chapter within the Toronto space. We heard, we assessed and we determined to handle this hole.”
The CBWO Toronto and Space Chapter will likely be launched at 11am on January 11 at Eddystone Neighborhood Centre, Jane Avenue and Finch Avenue in west-end Toronto.
The chapter will likely be led by award-winning writer Kamelah Blair, who was born and raised within the Jane and Finch group.
Blair “brings over 30 years of lived expertise that deeply connects her to the challenges and triumphs of the world she proudly calls house”, CBWC says.
“She witnessed firsthand the struggles of youth and households navigating systemic obstacles, violence, and restricted sources. These experiences formed her ardour for giving again and empowering others to beat adversity.”

Other than writing and enhancing, Blair additionally has been actively concerned as a mentor, and is founding father of COJ BOOKZ Publishing and Royalty Serving to Arms, a nonprofit group empowering individuals to show their ache into paper via writing.
CBWC, an integrated nonprofit group, was established in 1973 by the late Kay Livingstone, with the devoted purpose of bettering the lives of Black ladies and their households.
It advanced from the Canadian Negro Ladies’s Affiliation that was based in 1951 by a bunch of Black ladies in Toronto.
The January eleventh CBWO Toronto and Space Chapter launch, in keeping with Congress of Black Ladies officers, “will likely be informative and interactive. It is going to embody audio system, a presentation, questions and solutions, refreshments and prizes”.
“This chapter will allow the chance for Black ladies within the Toronto space to collaborate and develop applications, workshops and occasions which can be particular to this group. “CBWO Toronto and Space Chapter may also take part within the CBWO Scholarship Program and can provide scholarships to Black youth, who’re highschool graduates pursuing post-secondary schooling both at a college, faculty or commerce college. All CBWC Ontario chapters provide scholarships to youth of their area people via our annual scholarship program.”
