The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS), in partnership with the Commonwealth Video games Federation, launched the RCS Commonwealth Clear Oceans Plastics Marketing campaign in Samoa through the Commonwealth Heads of Authorities Assembly (CHOGM).
This marketing campaign is a brand new pan-Commonwealth environmental initiative by the Royal Commonwealth Society. The goal is to stop a million items of plastic from coming into Commonwealth waterways. By way of native motion and training, this youth-led marketing campaign will encourage everybody to scale back their plastic waste, spotlight alternate options, and search to completely change the best way we utilise our collective waterways throughout the Commonwealth.
The RCS is honoured that our Patron, His Majesty The King, highlighted this formidable pan-Commonwealth marketing campaign at CHOGM, highlighting his long-standing dedication to the atmosphere.
The launch of the marketing campaign befell on the Ulalei Vaiala, Taula Stadium in Apia, and, was attended by the Commonwealth political and diplomatic group, together with UK Overseas Secretary David Lammy MP, the Government Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society Dr Linda Yueh CBE, the President of the Commonwealth Video games Federation Dr Chris Jenkins OBE, Commonwealth athletes from Samoa, native volunteers from the Samoa Recycling and Waste Administration Affiliation, and Commonwealth younger leaders (together with members of the Commonwealth Youth Taskforce, the newly elected Commonwealth Youth Council, the RCS’s Affiliate Fellow Community and the RCS Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Community (CYGEN)).
Audio system included David Lammy MP, UK Overseas Secretary; Dr Linda Yueh CBE, Government Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society; Dr Chris Jenkins OBE, President of the Commonwealth Video games Federation; and Marina Keil, President of the Samoa Recycling and Waste Administration Affiliation.
Formally launching the RCS Commonwealth Clear Oceans Plastics Marketing campaign, Dr Linda Yueh CBE, Government Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society, mentioned:
“In response to the United Nations (UN), ‘plastic is essentially the most dangerous kind of ocean air pollution,’ and the Commonwealth is disproportionately affected as a result of practically half of its members are Small Island Growing States (25 out of 56 nations). That’s the reason this RCS Commonwealth Clear Oceans Plastics Marketing campaign is so essential and why, collectively, we take motion to stop plastic waste from coming into our waterways and assist obtain the UN Sustainable Growth Purpose (SDG) 14, ‘Life under Water. We’re delighted to be working with native companions throughout the Commonwealth, notably together with the Commonwealth Video games Federation, to realize this formidable goal collectively.”
In partnership with the Commonwealth Video games Federation, the marketing campaign may also function a sustainability relay, uniting athletes, youth, conservation teams, and native communities for country-specific weeks of motion.
Dr Chris Jenkins, President of the Commonwealth Video games Federation, mentioned:
