Kingstown, St. Vincent – Dominant bowling performances from Joshua Davis of Trinidad and Tobago and Mavendra Dindyal of Guyana marked the opening matches of the West Indies Males’s Below-19 Super50 Championship on Tuesday.
Davis’s five-wicket haul propelled T&T to a 31-run victory over the Leeward Islands, whereas Dindyal’s spectacular figures helped Guyana safe a 13-run win towards the defending champions Jamaica in rain-affected matches.
At Arnos Vale, Guyana’s pacer Golcharran Chulai and Isai Thorne offered strong assist to Dindyal, contributing to the dismissal of Jamaica for 162 runs in 34.1 overs. Chulai took two wickets for 29 runs from 5.1 overs, whereas Thorne, a notable West Indies Below-19 pacer, claimed two wickets for 39 runs from 9 overs. Jamaica’s captain, Brian Barnes, top-scored with 59 runs from 68 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes, whereas opener Adrian Weir added 35 runs.
Earlier, Guyana’s opener Rampertab Ramnauth anchored the innings with 45 runs, overcoming the disruptive spells of Jamaican pacers Odel Samuels and Tamarie Redwood. Samuels took 4 wickets for 19 runs in his 10-over spell, and Redwood captured three wickets for 31 runs in his 10 overs. Contributions from Riyad Latiff (25 runs), Thaddeus Lovell (23 runs), and Isai Thorne (21 runs) helped Guyana attain a complete of 175 runs in 49.5 overs.
