KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – A Invoice to amend Part 61 of the Structure of Jamaica to supply for brand spanking new Phrases of Enactment was handed within the Senate on Friday.

Minister of International Affairs and Chief of Authorities Enterprise within the Higher Home, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, who piloted the Structure (Modification of Part 61) Act, 2024, mentioned the intention is to “Jamaicanise the Structure.”
“This is part of our course of whereby we implement, collectively, a Structure that resonates with the individuals of Jamaica and inculcates a way of identification, a way of pleasure, a way of ambition and possession of our nationwide Structure, establishments, and legal guidelines,” Johnson Smith mentioned.
The Phrases of Enactment for Payments point out the supply of authority and are important to indicate the supreme authority of the Parliament of Jamaica in legislative issues.
“This Invoice takes us ahead on this course of. It can make sure that the Structure is amended to make sure that, at the moment, the Invoice establishing Jamaica as a Republic will comprise Phrases of Enactment which can be commensurate with the autonomy in step with Republic standing.”
Fifteen Members of the Senate voted for the laws. One abstained, whereas 5 have been absent.
