The continuous expression of the day was “drive till the street ends” as dignitaries, volunteers, builders, and press gathered in Chatham, St. James, Jamaica on Thursday, June twentieth as a part of the various service initiatives that occurred throughout the island for the Diaspora Day of Service.
Food For The Poor, Inc. along with Jamaica’s Consul Common to Miami, Oliver Mair, partnering with Housing Foundation of America, Inc. championed the ‘Construct A Home in One Day’ Challenge benefitting a household of 4.
Shem Hunter was seen reflecting on his former “shack,” simply steps away from the brand new wooden panels and contemporary coats of paint.
“That is far more than I anticipated,” acknowledged Hunter, a now proud house owner, as he joined the staff within the constructing.
