Efforts to revive LIAT, the regional airline that ceased operations in 2020, are progressing based on plan, with goals to have the service again within the skies by the top of April.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Data Minister, Melford Nicholas, expressed confidence within the timeline set by shareholder governments, assuring journalists throughout immediately’s post-cabinet media briefing that progress is underway.
Nicholas highlighted the approval of plane leases by the airline’s administrator and the allocation of mandatory funds, signaling adherence to the predetermined schedule.
Financing and acquisition plans
The shareholders of LIAT, together with the Governments of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Barbados, are actively pursuing the acquisition of three plane within the preliminary section of the airline’s reintroduction.
Antigua and Barbuda, taking a number one position within the financing of LIAT, is poised to speculate roughly US$12 million to acquire three ATR 42-600 plane.

These plane shall be utilized to service LIAT’s intensive route community, spanning over eight international locations and territories.
Enlargement by partnerships
Along with the direct funding in plane, Antigua and Barbuda is finalizing a partnership with Nigerian airline, Air Peace.
This collaboration is anticipated to herald further property and experience to bolster LIAT’s operations because it prepares for its reentry into the regional aviation market.
