    Brooklyn group hosts annual Walk-a-Thon to support Vincy athletes at Penn Relays – Caribbean Life

    The Brooklyn-based academic and cultural group Membership St. Vincent, Inc. will on April 6 host its annual Stroll-a-Thon to help Vincentian athletes collaborating within the illustrious Penn Relays Carnival on the Franklin Subject Stadium on the College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

    President Sandra Millington instructed Caribbean Life that the 9th Annual Stroll-a-Thon will happen a Brooklyn’s sprawling Marine Park, entrance at 3000 Fillmore Ave., beginning at 9 a.m.

    “We’re asking for volunteers from our member organizations to pledge; and to encourage buddies, members of the family, neighbors and associates to additionally make pledges and to affix us within the stroll,” she stated. “The funds raised will help in offering housing for the athletes, who will journey to the USA to compete within the Penn Relay video games over the last week in April.”

    Millington stated over 15 college students, a co-ed crew from Thomas Saunders Secondary Faculty and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Boys Grammar Faculty, are anticipated to signify St. Vincent and the Grenadines within the Penn Relays.

    hon over time has been “an absolute pleasure” for the members of Membership St. Vincent, Inc.

    “We help with offering housing for the athletes, assembly with the athletes who journey to the US to take part within the Penn Relays and socializing with them after the competitions,” she stated. “We be taught throughout our conversations with them about their targets and ambitions.

    “We’re happy with the athletes who come to the US to compete within the Penn Relay video games,” added Millington, stating that the athletes are “disciplined, well-mannered and have critical targets set for the long run.”

    She stated the Stroll-a-Thon additionally offers her group an opportunity to incorporate members of different organizations within the US, and different Vincentian and non-Vincentians individuals.

    “We organize a bus journey to Pennsylvania and have nice comradery for the final weekend of April,” stated Millington, including that “it offers us a nostalgic feeling” of the times, when the Boys Grammar Faculty held in-house sports activities on the Grammar Faculty Taking part in Subject.

    She stated that, over the previous 10 years, over 100 athletes from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, primarily college students from the Thomas Sanders Secondary Faculty, have competed within the Penn Relays.

    She famous that coaches from schools throughout the USA have attended the Penn Relays for “the only real function of recruiting athletes to signify their schools”.

    “So, allow us to all put money into our youths,” Millington stated. “The fee to us is minimal, however the returns could be nice.
