New York Metropolis is town that by no means sleeps. We’re a 24-hour metropolis that’s the nightlife capital of the world. And we stay the most secure huge metropolis in America.

After I got here into workplace two years in the past, we had a mission: Defend public security, revitalize the financial system, and make this metropolis extra livable for hardworking New Yorkers.

Our bars, eating places, music venues, and nightclubs make use of employees throughout town and are dwelling to each degree of our reside efficiency business. However throughout the 5 boroughs, native residents typically take care of noise, trash, and crime from nightlife. Complaints can result in unannounced inspections that shutter nightlife companies, typically completely.

Simply because our nightlife institutions throw an awesome get together, residents and companies shouldn’t be caught with a hangover the subsequent day. We need to defend public security, whereas holding our nightlife companies open.

So, final week, I joined the house owners of the nightlife venue, Paragon in Brooklyn, to announce a brand new public security program to maintain our nightlife venues protected. CURE, or Coordinating a United Decision with Institutions, brings collectively the NYPD, Small Enterprise Companies, and the Workplace of Nightlife to enhance public security responses to nightlife institutions and higher interact enterprise house owners by specializing in compliance and schooling, not punitive enforcement.

Beforehand, nightlife institutions had confronted unannounced, late night time, multi-agency inspections, via a program created within the 90s known as MARCH. We heard immediately from the nightlife business that this program wasn’t working. We listened to our enterprise house owners and residents, and along with a number of companies, we went work to ensure we had been enhancing security whereas holding nightlife venues open.

CURE creates direct traces of communication between the Workplace of Nightlife and native institutions and provides companies an opportunity to appropriate points earlier than enforcement takes place. No extra demonizing nightlife in our metropolis. When a noise criticism or trash criticism a couple of venue is available in, we’ll work with companies to resolve the problems, so residents can have peace of thoughts and quiet and companies can hold their doorways open. CURE is how we defend public security, lower purple tape, guarantee higher high quality of life, and hold enterprise doorways open.

And it’s all a part of our efforts to drive down crime whereas supporting our native financial system and making our metropolis extra livable. This yr, jobs are up, and crime is down, our streets are cleaner, and we stay the most secure huge metropolis in America.

We’re going to proceed to roll out applications that make dwelling on this metropolis simpler for residents and enterprise house owners — applications that make our neighborhoods quieter, hold our streets clear, help small companies, and cut back crime. And we’re making a better-quality of life for everybody who lives, rests, and performs in our metropolis.
